ALL INDIA OPEN FIDE RATING CHESS TOURNAMENT
SAHARANPUR, UTTAR PRADESH
 
        Saharanpur District Chess Association has been organised a biggest ever event of Western Uttar Pradesh "All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament" from 27th march to 7th April 2000 at Agrawal Dharmashala, Saharanpur. The tournament was played in 11 rounds under Swiss League syste. 86 players from different Units and States of India namely Indian Air Force, L.I.C., BHEL, UPP, Banks, Railways, Delhi, M.P., W.B., Haryana, Kerala, Karnataka, etc., include in UP participated in this FIDE rated event, among them 21 participants were already FIDE rated ones. Three IM norm holder D.K.Sharma (LIC-2337), S.Nasir Ali (UP-2201, Ex.India Champion), S.K.Rathore (M.P.-2269), and Z.A.Khan (UP) were all Ex National A players had star value during tournament and local player & public enjoyed there superb game style.

        The top seeded Dinesh Kumar Sharma of LIC won this tournament by scoring 9 (60.0) in a better tiebreak with S.K.Rathore 9 (59.5) and Hari Om Sharma 9 (56). All these three players received a shared cash price of Rs.7,000/- and D.K.Sharma got a special prize of RS.5,000/- given by Mr.Lal Bhadur Maheshwari the Organising Secretary of this tournament on account of obrtaining the first place. The prize fund of Rs.55,000/- was distributed among 39 players. Prize for the different disciplines were also awarded.

Special Prize:
V.Seetharamaiyah (UP) The oldest player of the tournament 90 years plus.
Saket Kamboj (Haryana) Best player uner 14 years.
Faisal Faruack (J&K) The youngest player of the tournament.
Yateen Gupta (UP) The youngest player from UP.

        The Chief Guest Mr.Deepak Trivedi (DM Saharanpur) inaugurated the tournament. Mr.Mukul Goel (IPS, SSP, Saharanpur), Mr.R.S.Chauhan (President, UPCA), Mr.R.K.Goel (General Secretary, UPCA), Mr.Madan Mohan Mittal (President, SDCA) were also present in the inaugural function.
        The Chief Guests Mr.H.Thakural (President, Rotary Club, Saharanpur) distributed the prizes to the players in the closing ceremony held on 7.4.2000 Mr.R.K.Goel gave the vote of thanks.
        Chief Arbiter Deepak Saigal (N.A.) was assisted by Mr.R.A.Mathur, Mr.R.K.Goel, Mr.H.S.Sharma, Mr.P.K.Chattopadhayay and Mr.Y.M.Dixit.
