It was undoubtedly
a historic day for Chess in Andra
Pradesh as they have now got three National Champions in one Championship
! I.Ramya (U-9 Girls)
, S. Teja (U-7 Boys) and P.L.Sahiti
(U-7 Girls) all from Andhra Pradesh became National Champions in their
respective categories with a round to spare ! Such a achievement
needs to be recognized and shows the efforts put in by the young players
since the last eight days and not to forget their parents , coaches and
the A.P. State association . What is more thrilling is
that all these players have full points to their credit and yet to be defeated
in the Championship!
However the race
for the U-9 Boys Chess Championship
is going on as Y.Sandeep who is also from A.P.!! stunned leader
T.Gobin (Manipur) in 55 moves to emerge joint leader with 7 points.
Gobin faltered in a drawn King pawn ending which allowed Sandeep
to get the opposition and finally the point. Not to forget is second seed
P.Ghosh who is also with 7 points and today defeated Navneet Detha
(Raj) on the second board in the Slav opening. The interest remains now
on this Championship as the final round is poised for a spectacular finish.
In the U-9 Girls
Championship , I. Ramya Krishna once again trusted her favourite
Reti Opening to pocket the Championship in 38 moves against P.K.Jayshree
(TN) . Lady luck smiled as Jayshree's
flag fell on the 38th
move. While D.Meenu also from A.P.! continued
to win and clinch second spot with a 45 move win in Siclian Najdorf against
S.Ratnakar (Mah) .
S.Ravi Teja (A.P.) in the U-7 Boys , pushed the Queen’s pawn and needed just 42 moves in the King’s Indian Defence against M. Fawaz to become Champion . Top seed , Kumar Gaurav (Bihar) recovered and won against K.Priyadarshan (T.N.) to take his tally to 6.5 points. In the U-7 Girls category , P.
L. Sahithi (A.P.) won the Championship
in a dashing style with a crushing win in 22 moves against L.Guha
(W.B.) in the Sicilian Najdorf opening. While on the second board , P.Priya
(T.N.) checkmated C.H.Savetha (T.N.) in 43 moves of the
Reti Opening . |
