All the leaders won
their respective games in round seven to keep a clean slate so far in the
National Children Chess Championship held at Orient Club , Ahmedabad .
T.Gobin (U-9 Boys) , I.Ramya
(U-9 Girls) , S. Teja (U-7
Boys) and P.L.Sahiti (U-7 Girls) all look poised for winning the Championship
with just two rounds to spare.
In
the Sicilian Najdorf opening on the Top Board of the U-9 Boys category
, T. Gobin (Manipur) pulled
up a hard earned victory after 74 moves of battle and moved to 7 points
with a one point lead over P. Ghosh , Y.Sandeep and Navneet Detha
who are closely following Gobin on 6
points . All the followers won their respective games against Nilesh
Mukerjee (W.B.) , V. Karthik (T.N.) and G.S.Sreejith (Kerala) to secure
the second spot at the end of seventh round.
In the U-9 Girls category , I. Krishna
converted her advantage of being a pawn up in the Rook Endgame with accurate
play which shows her depth in endgame technique to overcome N.Patvi in
51 moves of the Reti Opening , garnering 7 points and having a full
point lead. On the second board, D.Meenu
employed her favourite French Defence to defeat Mitali Patil in 47 moves
to closely follow Krishna on
the second spot with 6 points. In the U-7 Boys category , Top seed Kumar Gaurav (Bihar) bowed out against S.Ravi Teja (A.P.) who is having a great winning streak . Teja employed the CaroKann defence and gained the upper hand after 24 moves in the middlegame . The game ended in 78 moves and Teja looks poised to win the title. However closely following Teja is M.Fawaz (Kerala) with 6 points who defeated Dhaval Adhav (Mah) in 54 moves of the French Defence. In the U-7 Girls section , P. L. Sahithi (A.P.)
moved to 7 points with a convincing win over A.Bhat (Kar) in 68 moves of
the French Defence opening. On
the second board , C.H.Savetha (TN) crushed G.Amirthavali in just 24 moves
of the Guico Piano opening. |
