| The fifth round saw the emergence
of Sole leaders in U-9 Girls , U-7 Boys and U-7 Girls. In the
U-9 Boys however , the lead is shared by P. Ghosh of W.B. and T. Gobin
of Manipur with 5 points respectively . P.Ghosh outplayed
Abhishek (Mah) in the Petroff's Defence with the white pieces. Ghosh got
into a mild time-pressure but got over it and his opponent resigned on
the 41st move as he was a Queen down. While T. Gobin played a nice
positional game against Nilesh Mukerjee (WB) to pocket the point in 43
moves of the Guico Piano opening .
I. Krishna (A.P.) emerged the sole leader
in the U-9 Girls Championship by defeating Top seed D.Meenu (A.P) . Krishna
won on time on the 26th move in the Reti Opening. While on the second board
, N. Patvi simply checkmated her opponent in a quick 30 move game of the
Queen's Gambit Declined , exchange variation.
In the U-7 Boys category , Second seed P. Negi
(Delhi) and Top seed Kumar Gaurav (Bihar) decided to split points
in 24 moves of the Sicilian Dragon . S. Ravi Teja (A.P.) emerged
sole leader by defeating Aditya Udeshi (Mah) in 49 moves of the Carokann
Defence.
P.L. Sahiti (A.P.) also emerged sole leader
in the U-7 Girls Championship by winning against P.Priya (T.N.) .
Priya employed the Nimzovitch defence (1.e4 Nc6 ) against Sahiti's King
pawn and after 34 moves got into a losing position as she was 3 pawns down
. Priya conceded after 74 moves. While on the second board , Pallabi Roy
won an exchange in the middlegame against Chaitramukund. (Mah) and won
in 46 moves. |
