Dave defeated fifth seed S.Mrunmayee (Mah) taking her score to 3 points
in the U-9 Girls Chess Championship. She was two pawns up in a Opposite
Coloured Bishop ending and displayed good endgame technique throughout
to pocket the point after 4 hours of play. On the top board , D.
Meenu (A.P) employed the French Defence - Advance Variation against
S. Bhatterjee (W.B.) and won the game after a long struggle. On the
third board , Sonam Shah (Gujarat) squandered a plus position in the Queen
Pawn opening to lose in 37 moves against Priya Ratnam (Bih).
In the U-9 Boys category , second seed P. Ghosh
(WB) defeated Bhavya Shah (Gujarat) in the Sicilian Defence. While
on the second board , 30th seed Abhisek Kelkar (Mah) defeated fifth seed
V. Gunah (TN) in 50 moves of the Ruy Lopez Opening. Gunah faltered on the
33rd move playing Rg3 which allowed his opponent to promote a Queen . In
an interesting game on the third board , S. Yuzvendra (Kar)
defeated Abhyud (Raj) in the Sicilian Dragon . White sacrificed an exchanve
for 3 connected passed pawns and pocketed the game in 61 moves.
In the U-7 Boys section , Top Seed Kumar Gaurav
(Bih) defeated Vishal Thakre (Mah) in the Sicilian Dragon . It was
a lucky win for Kumar cause he had offered a draw on the 26th move which
was declined by Vishal . But Vishal blundered his Queen on the 29th move
thus losing the game in 36 moves ! On the second table , P. Negi (Del)
defeated Mahendra Venkat in 57 moves of the Guico Piano . While on the
third board S.Ravi Teja won against Chankya Manoj in 66 moves of
the Caro-Kann Defence - Exchange Variation.
It was a smooth day for the seeded players
in the U-7 Girls Chess Championship . Second seed P.Sahiti (A.P.) defeated
Chaitramukund (Mah) in 52 moves of the Ruy Lopez Opening . While fourth
seed P. Priya (T.N.) and fifth seed C. Savetha (T.N.) won against R.Visalakshi
(T.N.) and V.Niharika (A.P.) respectively .
