| The 38th National B Chess Champioship
comes to an end with the selection of twelve stalwarts out of the lot of
251 players . Tejas Bakre (Elo 2358) became the Champion with 10.5
points , one full point lead over the rest of the players.
The first four tables saw quick draws as the players had nine points and
were eager to qualify for the National A . P.Konguvel , G.B.Prakash
, Atanu Lahiri , K.Murugan , Neelotpal Das , Lanka Ravi and Sriram Jha
qualified by drawing thier games and taking their score to 9.5 points.
Sandipan Chanda crashed out of the selection as he could only manage to
draw against Vishal Sareen ( ELo 2302) on the fifth board.
Wonderkid Saptarshi Roy qualifies for the National
A as he defeated C.S.Gokhale on the sixth board with a score of 9.5
points . The surprise of the tournament , Nasir Wajih (Elo 2264)
who won against Jayant Gokhale (Elo 2321) and qualified with 9.5 points
. Playing with the black pieces , Wajih adopted the King's Indian Defence
and won in the endgame where Jayant was a piece down . Sekhar Sahu (Elo
2319) played some attacking Chess to defeat Arghydip Das (Elo 2206) in
the Sicilian Defence . Sahu sacrificed an exchange for initiative , but
Das returned it soon to transit into a Queen ending with a pawn down
. Sahu displayed a perfect endgame technique to pocket point and his qualification
. A satisfied Sahu said " I converted my advantage into win with superb
Technique."
N.K.Mishra ( Elo 2303) also made it into the
Top Twelve by outclassing Arvind Shastry (Elo 2223) taking his socre to
9.5 points . |
