not make it against the solid determination of G.B.Prakash (Elo 2429) and
lost in the Rook ending where Prakash had a extra pawn . Prakash who was
playing with the black pieces has now moved to nine points. On the top
board Tejas Bakre (Elo 2358) and Lanka Ravi (Elo 2371) split points immediately
. Tejas , now on ten points has confirmed his entry into National A and
virtually the Championship due to better progressive score . On the second
board too Sriram Jha (Elo 2409) and K. Murugan (Elo 2377) also agreed to
draw to take their respective score to nine points.
Neelotpal Das (Elo 2410) outclassed K.Visweswaran
(Elo 2288) in 37 moves of the Sicilian Najdorf Defence. Das playing
with the white pieces sacrificed an exchange on the 18th move and got two
dangerous passed pawns on "c4" "d5" . Vishweswaran got some counterplay
on the "e" file with his pawn on "e3" . But he finally resigned
in view of the pawn roller on seventh rank .
Atanu Lahiri (Elo 2385) took his tally to nine
points by defeating Shankar Roy (Elo 2326) on the fifth table . Konguvel
also scored fluently against N.Sanjay ( ELo 2326) on the sixth board.
R.B.Ramesh crashes out of the selection as he lost to Vishal Sareen (Elo
2303) on the seventh board.
Nasier Wajih (Elo 2264) raised his hopes of
selection upsetting T.S.Ravi (Elo 2385) and has moved to 8.5 points . Sandipan
Chanda (ELo 2446) won with ease against Arvind C.J. (Elo 2268). Tommorow
is the final round and everybody is expecting fighting Chess . However
on the Top boards , the players having 9.0 points will draw their games
to grab the 9.5 selection score ! |
