UNSTOPPABLE  BAKRE  IN SIGHT OF TITLE

By Manthan Chokshi in Jamshedpur

Saptarshi Roy upsets Atanu Lahiri (Elo 2385) ,  Arvind C.J. holds Konguvel (Elo 2377)  , C.S.Gokhale (Elo 2345) draws with P. Sharma , A.Das holds Anup Deshmukh (Elo  2311)

The 38th National B is nearing its climax and Tejas Bakre (Elo 2358) who is in a tremendous form continued his feast by disposing off Neelotpal Das (Elo 2410) in 33 moves to race ahead with nine points.  Tejas playing the black pieces once again  adopted the Queen's Indian defence against Das's Queen Pawn Opening.  Tejas got two hanging pawns in the centre but managed to take the sting out of Das's white coloured Bishop on 'h3' which remained a spectator for the rest of the game . Das got a lone passer on the b file which offered him some counterplay but Bakre penetrated heavily on the 'e' file  with his Rook . Das resigned in view of unavoidable mate on 'g1'.  With just three rounds to go  Bakre who is looking unstoppable  is a hot contender for the title.

On the second board , Lanka Ravi (Elo 2371) crushed second seed Sandipan Chanda (Elo 2446)  in 31 moves of the French defence taking his tally to eight points .  Lanka Ravi playing with the black pieces attacked fiercely on the Queen side placing his pawns on 'a5' 'b5' 'c5' 'd5'  !  and won a pawn on the 14th move.  Chanda faced some tough problems stopping Lanka's "a" passed pawn  and resigned as the position offered nothing for him.

Sriram Jha (Elo 2409) coming back to his form defeated Gurpreet Pal Singh (Elo 2306) in the Sicilian Paulsen.   But all eyes were on the wonder kid Saptarshi Roy who yesterday  brilliantly defeated Sudhakar Babu .  Today it was Atanu Lahiri's turn  as Roy pounced on a blunder by Lahiri in time pressure and won the game taking his score to eight points.  Lahiri adds " I was winning but choose the wrong continuation trying to mate him. "

G.B.Prakash (Elo 2429) won against Roktim Bandyopadhyay (Elo 2308) on the fifth board , while V.Koshy and Vishal  Sareen agreed to draw on the sixth board.
