BAKRE  MARCHES AHEAD.

 By Manthan Chokshi in Jamshedpur

Roy stuns Sudhakar Babu ( Elo 2365) ,  Arvind C.J. holds Murugan (Elo 2377) , A. Das holds Vishal Sareen (Elo 2303).

Tejas Bakre ( Elo 2358) continued his fine form with a splendid victory over G.B.Prakash (Elo 2429) on the top board to maintain his lead of half a point.  Tejas (Black) adopted the Queen's Indian defence in response to  Prakash's Queen Pawn opening. Prakash attacked on the Queen side by posting his Knight on 'c5' square. Tejas countered on the Kingside by pushing his 'h' pawn. However he blundered a pawn in this assault but got good compensation for it. Prakash who was a pawn up complimented in return by blundering a piece in time trouble. Bakre pocketed the point in 50 moves and has eight points .

On the second spot is Neelotpal Das (Elo 2410) with seven points  who won against Sekhar Sahu (Elo 2319) on the third board in the French defence. Sahu playing white attacked on the  kingside  but Das defended well to transit into a pawn plus ending with Rook Bishop Vs. Rook Knight. Das won comfortably in the endgame .

On the second board, Atanu Lahiri (Elo 2385) did not take any risk after yesterday's defeat  to split points against Sandipan Chanda (Elo 2446) in 17 moves of the Semi-Slav defence.

P. Konguvel (Elo 2377) and Gurpreet Pal Singh (Elo 2306) played a complex game on the fourth board in the French defence, Tarrasch variation.  Gurpreet's king was stuck in the centre, but he went boldly counter-attacking Kongvel's king.  Konguvel played some inaccurate moves and was forced to take perpetual checks to end the game in 34 moves.

The game of the day  was  Saptarshi Roy Choudhary  (Elo 2226) against  Sudhakar Babu (Elo 2365)  where the latter's king got stuck in the centre and the former made a shortwork of it in 32 moves. Roy thrilled the spectators by sacrificing a Knight and Rook brilliantly .  Follow the game below.

Sriram Jha continued his comeback by defeating M. R.Venkatesh in 67 moves and taking his tally to seven points
