| Neelotpal Das (Elo 2410) continued
his winning run in the 38th National B Chess Championship by defeating
second seed Sandipan Chanda (Elo 2446) keeping a clean slate so far - 6/6.
Playing with the white pieces, Das adopted the King's Indian Attack and
a complicated middlegame arose. Das who was in full flow today sacrificed
a exchange for Chanda's g7 Bishop thus weakening black's kingside. Das
attacked furiously to win in just 31 moves. Das however said that
Sandipan could have adopted a more stubborn defence.
Closely following Das is sixth seed Atanu Lahiri (Elo 2385) on 5.5 points with a hard fought win over R. Balasubramaniam (Elo 2276) in the Queen Pawn opening. An unclear ending was reached with Lahiri (White) having Queen-Knight and Black having Queen-Bishop with three pawns each . Lahiri who is in excellent form converted the ending to win in 48 moves. On the third board K.Murugan (Elo 2377) and Tejas Bakre (Elo 2358) played it safe in the Slav defence to draw in 14 moves . G.B.Prakash (Elo 2429) defeated Sekhar Sahu (Elo 2319) in the Caro Kann . Konguvel (Elo 2377) was held to a draw by Laltu Chatterjee (Elo 2262) and Sudhakar Babu (Elo 2365) took his tally to five points by defeating Saurabh Khedekar (Elo 2264). |
