P. Manojkumar holds P.Mitrakanth (Elo 2329) , V.S. Negi defeats Sharad Tilak (Elo 2350) , S. Roy Choudary draws with Ravi Hegde (Elo 2362)

Fourth seed Neelotpal Das (Elo 2410) and Vishal Sareen (Elo 2303) jumped into joint lead in the 38th edition of National B Chess Championship with 4 points each. Neelotpal crushed Gurpreet Pal Singh (Elo 2306) in 40 moves of the French defence exchange variation. Playing with the white pieces Das got a favourable position due to the weakness in Gurpreet 's kingside. Das got a good attack after black's 12th move g5 which was a mistake. Das however was not totally satisfied with his play and said that he allowed some unnecessary counter play to black which prolonged the game.

Vishal Sareen opened with the Queen pawn and employed the Trompovsky Attack against P. Konguvel (Elo 2377) . The resultant middlegame was level but Konguvel faltered and had to forcibly sacrifice a piece after which Vishal pocketed to win in just 29 moves .

On the second board , K.Murugan (Elo 2377) played it safe against R. Balasubramaniam (Elo 2276) . While on the fourth board a long struggle for almost seven hours between Sudhakar Babu (Elo 2365) and Ebenezer Joseph (Elo 2224) ended in a draw . Joseph adopted the King's Indian Defence and in severe time trouble won a piece for two pawns . However he himself was left with one pawn stranded on the rook file . Babu managed to draw comfortably in the endgame.

Tomorrow's play will be exciting to see whether or not a sole leader emerges!
