| Today's play saw huge number
of draws on the top tables. Second seed Sandipan Chanda (Elo 2446)
was held to a draw by Sayed Anawar Shazuli ( Elo 2272) . Shazuli opened
with the queen pawn and the game was level throughout . Both the players
decided to split points after 24 moves as the game was heading equal.
Youngster Valay Parikh ( Elo 2270) of Gujarat also held third seed G.B.Prakash ( Elo 2429) in the Slav Defence. Valay played well to tranist into a equal ending with two rooks on the board and the players agreed to a draw after 27 moves. On the third board Neelotpal Das ( Elo 2410) won after a hard fought struggle of almost seven hours against P. Mohanty (Elo 2270 ) . Neelotpal playing black adpoted the Queens Indian Defence and the game went into Rook ending . Neelotpal was two pawns up and displayed excellent endgame technique to pocket the point after hard sweat. Top seed R.B.Ramesh ( Elo 2450) suffered another setback when he lost today's game against Arghyadip Das ( Elo 2206) in 42 moves of Najdorf Defence. Ramesh (see 111 k pic of the players in action) went for a premature attack and played the penalty as Das bishop - Be4 became deadly. Das was very happy after the game and remarked " It was a spicy game !" Atanu Lahiri ( Elo 2385 ) drew with C.J. Arvind ( Elo 2268) , S. Satyapragyan ( Elo 2379 ) drew with Thejkumar J.S. (Elo 2265) and Swati Ghate ( Elo 2246) holds Dinesh Kumar Sharma ( Elo 2376). Senior players K. Murugan (Elo 2377 ) and P. Konguvel (Elo 2377) won against S. Khedekar (Elo 2264) and Nasir Wajih (Elo 2264) respectively.
