Indian men lost their second match in the 34th Chess Olympiad after the best performer Abhijit Kunte crashed to an unexpected defeat after making a blunder on move 17 against Kiril Georgiev. Krishnan Sashikiran surprised Veselin Topalov and came close to beating him but drew since twi knights don't mate a lone king. P.Harikrishna held Delchev comfortably and Prasad gave a 19-move draw with white to Kolev. Indian men are on 17 points, still very good.
The Subbaraman sisters, Vijayalakshmi and Meenskshi excelled beating their opponents in a knight ending and a mating net respectively. Saheli Barua sadly was a victim of a big attack from the Azerbaijani player. A 2-1 victory gives India 13 points.
Germany is leading with 20.5 and Russia is behind with 19.5 points. In the women's event, China (16.5) moved into sole lead blanking Moldova 3-0 while Georgia (15.5) received a setback on Chiburdanidze's board and is in second place after beating Holland 2-1.
