Is It Over? Kramnik Leads 7.5-5.5

Kasparov Surrenders A Draw Meekly

By Arvind Aaron

Needing two victories to bridge the gap of two points, Garry Kasparov offered a draw after just 14 moves with the white pieces concede a possible defeat and reduce his chances of retaining the world title he first won in 1985.

Going straight into the Berlin defence, against which he had no answer, Kasparov was expected to show some opening surprise to his opponent in game 13, his lucky number. Also the day coincided with the birthday of his son Vadim who turned four. But after just an hour the game was over with Kramnik accepting yet another short draw. The match looks mysterious and Valery Salov said it was looking like that for the past few games already.

Is he out of his mind? What happened? Is it rigged? Is he sick? Or complaining about something. Or afraid of Kramnik. All these questions coming in your mind is coming up in everybody else's mind too. Simple reason: Perhaps he has given up.
