Alexei Shirov, born July 4, 1972 won the 9th Amber Chess Tournament at Monte Carlo on Tuesday. He made a draw in the rapid game of round eleven against Vassily Ivanchuk (see pic above) to win with a game to spare. Anand finished second in the blindfold tournament and fifth in the combined tournament. He did not do well in the rapid tournament which he won last year.
