Xu Jun maintained his slender half point lead with two emphatic victories in both the rounds of the Asian Individual Chess championship incorporating the World chess qualifying championshiop at the gorky Sadan today. GM Saidali Iuldachev with 5.5 points is trailing behind the leader by a full point. . IM Pentyala Harikrishna, GM Alexei Barsov and IM Tahir Vakhidov are sharing third spot with five points each.
Indian GMs Sasikiran and Abhijit Kunte are tagging behind disappointingly. Barua was beaten by IM Tahir Vakhidov but Praveen Thipsay however along with Harikrishna maintained a clean slate and with two draws today is trailing in fourth spot with IM Suryashekhar Ganguly and 10 other players. Ganguly scored a facile victory over GM Vladimir Magai in 46 moves of a Queen’s gambit accepted game while Prasad lost in 40 moves of a French defence game.
