B.S.Sivanandan of Karnataka won the Shree Maheshwaranand Saraswati Memorial FIDE Rating event held at Pune from April 10-18. A total of 130 players from India, Sri Lanka and Brazil took part in this Rs.1 lakh prize fund 10-round Swiss format event. Sivanandan who has a rating of 2450 clocked a rating performance of 2615 and is heading for a big rating increase in the lists ahead.
Sivanandan scored nine points from ten games to finish half a point ahead of the tough field. The event was organised by the Buddhibal Kreeda Trust at Manohar Mangal Karyalaya in Pune. The title race was between Vikramaditya Kamble of Maharashtra and Sivanandan before the final round commenced. Sivanandan beat O.T.Anil Kumar of Kerala while Kamble was held to a draw by B.Adhiban. Kamble finished second and received Rs.20,000. In the closing ceremony, Eesha Karavade was felicitated for becoming a woman grandmaster at Dubai recently.
