Big Triumph For Humpy In Russia

Koneru Humpy won the super category chess tournament organised for women in Russia in July. In the 10-player round robin, Humpy won three games showing efficiency with the white pieces. She was the only undefeated player. The best players from China, Georgia, Russia and the Bulgarian world women's champion Antoaneta Stefanova participated in the event that concluded on July 13.
Humpy, born March 31, 1987 is from Vijayawada and sponsored by Bank of Baroda. She is accompanied by her father and coach Koneru Ashok. In general, Humpy, 18, fought most of her games long until the result came.
Koneru Humpy won the North Urals Cup women's super grandmaster tournament on July 13 with a 6/9 score at Krasnoturinsk, Russia. She scored three victories with the white pieces and remained the only undefeated player in the 10-player round robin. Looking at her victories, one can say that she kept playing and cashed points when her opponents blundered. The 1987-born Vijayawada player sponsored by Bank of Baroda had proved her real strength in women's chess by finishing way ahead of the world women's champion Stefanova who took last place.
